Our Journey

Brian, founder of Head Peace, has spent over three decades studying, practicing, and teaching meditation and breathwork.

His journey began in 1993, when he first took a course in Transcendental Meditation, igniting a lifelong dedication to exploring the transformative power of these practices.

In 1997, he travelled to Thailand, where he trained in Vipassana meditation alongside forest monks under the guidance of The Venerable Ajahn Tong Sirimangalo, a globally renowned meditation teacher.

This formative experience led Brian on an exploration across Asia, immersing himself in diverse meditative traditions.

Eventually, he relocated to the United States, where he studied at the San Francisco Zen Center, the first Zen Buddhist monastery outside Asia. Founded by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, a Sōtō Zen monk instrumental in introducing Zen Buddhism to the Western world, the centre deepened Brian’s understanding of mindfulness and Zen practice.

During his time in America, Brian was introduced to Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of Living Foundation, a global humanitarian organisation that has brought transformative breathwork practices to millions of people. Gurudev invited Brian to travel with him across India, where he undertook advanced training in breathwork and gained a profound understanding of these life-changing techniques.

In 2007, Brian joined the Art of Living Foundation’s relief efforts in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. There, he led trauma relief workshops, combining breathwork and meditation to help communities in their recovery. This pivotal experience inspired Brian’s focus on using these techniques to address issues such as depression, trauma, and anxiety—a path he has pursued ever since.

As the founder of Head Peace, Brian draws on decades of training and experience to design accessible, effective programmes tailored to individual and group needs. His work reflects not only a deep well of expertise but also a firm belief in the power of meditation and breathwork to create meaningful, lasting change in people’s lives.
